Hill new owner for Powell/Reebok team

10-23-98

-- Cristen Powell

Andrew Evans, President of Team Scandia, announced that an agreement has been reached with Roy Hill to purchase Automotive Performance Group, Inc. (APG's) NHRA Winston Top Fuel Drag Racing Team. The Reebok/Sequent/Royal Purple Motor Oil/PowerShield Coatings/Chevrolet dragster driven by Cristen Powell is competing at the Winston Finals this weekend. While driving for Team Scandia, Powell won the Mopar Parts Nationals in Englishtown, N.J., in 1997, and, this year in Seattle, she set a new track record with a 4.590-second run. She currently is 14th in the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Top Fuel point standings.

"With my current business obligations, I do not have the time needed for the day-to-day running of the team. I am very excited to see that the relationship that Roy and Cristen have developed while competing on the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series this year will continue for years to come." Evans said.

Said Cristen, "I am ecstatic to continue my professional driving career with Roy Hill, who has been very instrumental in our team's success this year. The Roy Hill Drag Racing School is an institution in the drag racing industry, and I am very honored to have worked with him this year and look forward to driving for him in the future. I am very thankful for the opportunities that Team Scandia has given me and very proud to have been a part of their efforts for the last two years."

"I have been drag racing all my life and will finally realize the dream of owning a Top Fuel Drag Racing team," said Hill. "Andy Evans has given me the chance of a lifetime and without him, I never could have done this. I have developed a fantastic relationship with Cristen Powell and I know the talents that she has to drive a race car. She is the freshest face in drag racing, very popular with the fans, and has a great sponsor in Reebok. We look forward to competing in a full season in 1999 in the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series."
